ILT is a modification of the Clay tile roof. Observations of the Clay tiled
roofs showed that it imposed its weight in addition to other imposed loads
directly onto its structural carcassing which tend to fail when there is a slight defect in the carcassing
material. Another aspect is the discolouration of the clay tiles which gives an unpleasant look over
time. This gave birth to the Long tile which uses the Zincalume sheets in the formation of the design
with the tile appearance. It has the advantage of being lightweight and has wider coverage than the clay
tiles which makes it economical in terms of cost. The only disadvantage is that the structural carcassing
has to have close purlin members to make the sheet sit well. It has an effective coverage area of
900mm and a depth of 28mm making it difficult to distinguish between the long tile and the clay tile
from a distance.
